Congratulations, you’re engaged! This exciting and joyous moment marks the beginning of a beautiful journey toward marriage. As you bask in the glow of your engagement, it’s essential to start thinking about the next steps to ensure a smooth and enjoyable wedding planning process. Here’s a guide on what couples should do after getting engaged:
1. Share the News: Before diving into wedding planning, take the time to share the news with your loved ones. Whether you choose to make phone calls, send out announcements, or share a post on social media, let your friends and family celebrate this special moment with you.
2. Enjoy the Moment: Take a breather and relish in the joy of being engaged. Celebrate with your partner, reminisce about your journey together, and savor the happiness before jumping into the whirlwind of wedding planning. I get it- the excitement is REAL but seriously; enjoy the moment!
3.Set a Tentative Date: You don’t need to have a specific date in mind just yet, but having a general idea of when you’d like to tie the knot will help with the planning process. Consider the season, potential holidays, and any significant dates that hold meaning to you as a couple. Having a date in mind for when you tour venues is crucial!
4. Discuss Budget: ( Ughhhhh $$$) Wedding expenses can add up quickly, so it’s crucial to have an open and honest conversation about your budget. Determine who will be contributing, and establish a realistic budget that aligns with your priorities.
5. Create a Guest List: Drafting a preliminary guest list will give you an idea of the size of the wedding you’re envisioning. This will also be useful when scouting for venues and estimating costs. & Remember- this is YOUR day- not anyone else- make your guest list YOURS!
6. Research Venues: Start researching potential wedding venues. Consider factors such as location, capacity, and the overall ambiance. Schedule visits to your top choices and inquire about availability. Key note: Weather.
7. Consider a Wedding Planner/ Coordinator: If you find the idea of planning a wedding overwhelming, think about hiring a wedding planner. They can help you navigate the process, provide valuable insights, and ensure everything runs smoothly on the big day. In addition- most venues require you to have at minimum a day-of-coordinator who will help your day run smoothly. They can also be in charge of all of your vendors!
8. BRIDES*** Begin Dress Shopping: While it may be too early to make a final decision, starting the dress shopping process will give you an idea of what styles you like. This can also help you determine if you need to make any alterations to your budget.
9. Hire your vendors- or at least research them: This includes but is not limited to: Photography, Videography, Food, Dj, Coordinator, Officiant, Venue***, Flowers, Etc.
10. Back to the fun stuff… Celebrate With an Engagement Party: Throw a party to celebrate your engagement with friends and family. It’s a great way for both sides to get to know each other better and share in the excitement.
